Jake Savas, Savvy Sign Co Sydney

Hi, I'm Jake..

the owner and head signwriter here at Savvy Sign Co.

We are a team of specialist hand painted signwriters in Sydney, bringing over 13 years, a broad portfolio of experience and a never-ending passion for signwriting. The best thing is, I feel like we are just getting started!

As your modern day signwriters, we take great pride in bringing a new level of craftsmanship and a commitment to the highest possible quality to each and every one of our projects. It’s something that we have always done and will continue to do.

The impacts of a hand painted sign

The art of signwriting is an age-old tradition that is so agile, so detailed and so personal that no two pieces are ever the exact same. It’s the ability to turn any plain surface into a stunning piece of art for everyone to admire for many years to come. When you choose a hand painted sign, you’re choosing to make what we believe are three key impacts:

Longevity

Have you ever walked past an aged digitally printed sign that looks good? It’s pretty rare, almost impossible. While we are very fortunate to live in our beautiful sunny country, the harsh Australian climate does not fare well with the longevity of vinyl and digitally printed signs which have a limited lifespan before fading, peeling and becoming completely obsolete. This is one of the greatest strengths of hand painted signs. They are hand crafted to last and withstand the test of time!

The old hand painted signs in Sydney are proof of their longevity. From the heritage wall murals that have been found in the CBD, to the hand painted sign outside your local corner shop.

We believe that the only thing better than a brand new hand painted sign is an aged one, where you can see the brush strokes on the surface which has begun to come through the artwork.

At Savvy Sign Co. we only use high quality materials and products like Dulux, Taubmans and 1 Shot Enamel paints to ensure that our signs have the greatest consistency with bold and vibrant colours that can last up to 15 years. And the best part is, all they need after this amount of time is a fresh coat of paint.

Craftsmanship

The artisan craft of hand painted signwriting has a rich history dating back over 100 years. After almost becoming extinct within the digital world, the industry are now experiencing such a strong reform within the signwriting industry.

More than ever, companies are holding branding as the driver for success and the impact that they have in the world. The result of this is a greater appreciation for artistry and new opportunities to collaborate with hand painted signwriters who can help to tell their story and values to their customers.

When you invest in a hand painted sign, you’re really getting something special in return! You’re buying a one of a kind artwork that has been created by a craftsman signwriter. It is completely unique and has personality with each individual stroke. Selecting a signwriter who has taken the time to learn and develop the skills to master such a refined form of art will leave you with a high impact result that both you and your customers will appreciate for years to come.

The Environment

As we mentioned earlier, we are very fortunate to live in such a beautiful country. From our parks and bushlands to our beaches and waterways, there’s no denying that what we have here in Australia is something truly special that can’t be found anywhere else on the earth. So when it comes to preserving it, as signwriters, we aim to do everything possible to ensure that our environmental impact is as low as possible.

From over 13 years of working in the signage industry, it is astonishing to see how much waste is actually created from digital and vinyl printed signs, From wall prints and vinyl graphic print runover to the transfer tape used on every project. It’s all bi-product that unfortunately doesn’t break down, therefore has no reusage purpose.

Now we acknowledge that paint isn’t perfect, although the greatest impact that we have as hand painted signwriters is that we only buy and use the amount of paint that is required for each project. Any paint that isn’t used once the artwork is completed simply goes back into the tin, to be used elsewhere. By choosing a custom hand painted sign, you are in turn helping the environment by reducing your footprint with products and materials that can all be reused and recycled. And that gets a big tick from us!
